The Benefits of Prenatal Yoga

If you’ve never done a yoga practice before, I understand that aspects of it could seem intimidating. Much like what it can feel like to embark on something new and unknown, beginning a yoga practice can be met with an assortment of feelings and thoughts. My lovely community partner for the month is the type of instructor that doesn’t care where you’ve been or what your experience with yoga may or may not have been in the past, she sees you where you are in this moment and that’s all that matters. Having been to several yoga classes and studios, I can attest to the fact that not all instructors have this approach. Ivory is different in the best sense of the word.

Here are just a few of the potential benefits of doing some prenatal yoga, even just a few times throughout your journey. The more you do something, the more natural it usually is of course, but I believe you’ll benefit from this mindful, slow, and gentle form of exercise even after doing it a handful of times.

  • Stress reduction

  • Improvement in sleep

  • Increased strength, flexibility, and endurance

  • Improved self-esteem

  • Help in managing pregnancy-related aches and pains

  • Supportive tools for labor and birth

  • Community support

  • Grounding, calming, empowering

  • Helps you tune into your body, your breath, and your place in the world at that very moment

Group prenatal yoga classes can provide you with the community and support you really need as you learn how to navigate the world within your ever-changing body and prepare for what’s to come. Join Ivory, of Rise and Bloom Yoga, for a 7-week prenatal yoga series from May 25th - July 6th at The Yoga Carriage from 6:30 pm - 7:45 pm. If you’re not able to commit to the entire series, you can drop in for the dates that work best for your schedule.
